Challenges in Education: Teaching Foreign Languages in Times of Uncertainty

This research section will cover a number of current issues and their possible solutions, taking into account such factors as the globalisation of education and international standardisation of requirements for mastering a foreign language, the development of modern information technologies and their linguistic and didactic potential, new approaches to teaching foreign languages for specific purposes.

The discussions within this research section as a part of the economic forum will help, firstly, to understand the most pressing challenges in the field of development of communication skills and competencies of young professionals in economic specialisms and outline the main directions of further work; secondly, to exchange experience of successful implementation of programs for academic skills development at the Faculty of Economics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and other national and foreign universities; thirdly, to develop a strategy for the actualisation of further research in the conditions of global challenges and new requirements for teaching and learning foreign languages, linguistics and translation studies.

The program of the section includes a plenary session and speeches within two section tracks covering the following topics:

Track 1. Priorities and challenges in the teaching of foreign languages for specific purposes 

Track 2. Current trends in the development of philology and translation studies

The section will bring together researchers from higher education institutions and academic institutes, as well as experts in educational programmes of foreign countries’ representative offices.
